Origami Valley Fold

valley fold

In origami, Valley Folds are designated with a dashed line and a filled arrow (arrow head is black). The line shows where the paper will bend and the arrow shows directionality. This fold, along with the mountain fold, is the bread-and-butter of origami. All origami models will have at least one valley and/or mountain fold.

In this example, the fold is made by folding the bottom edge of the paper up towards you and then down to lay overtop the surface of the paper.

If you were to unfold this, you would find a crease line at the exact location as the dashed line.

John Smith has developed a branch of origami called Pureland Origami. In pureland origami, only valley and mountain folds are used.
